Guiding Principles

The values that shape every workshop session and every interaction with participants in our community.

What We Stand For

Every workshop session is designed around a clear set of principles. These are not aspirational statements. They are operational commitments that shape how sessions are structured, how facilitators communicate, and how the program interacts with participants and the broader community.

Accessibility Without Conditions

Financial education should reach every older adult regardless of their prior knowledge, digital experience, or economic situation. No participant is expected to own a smartphone, have a bank account, or have completed a particular level of schooling in order to benefit from these sessions.

Sessions are held at DIF community centers precisely because those spaces are already familiar, physically accessible, and trusted by the communities they serve. Transport barriers are a real obstacle for many older adults, and location selection reflects that awareness.

1

Universal Accessibility

Content is prepared so participants at any literacy level can follow along. Visual aids, demonstrations, and printed materials are all part of the approach.

2

No Prerequisites

Participants do not need any prior financial knowledge or technology experience. Each topic begins from foundational concepts.

3

Physical Accessibility

DIF centers are selected with mobility and transport in mind. Sessions are held at times that are convenient for the communities served.

Educational Neutrality

This program does not promote specific financial products, banks, applications, or service providers. Facilitators present factual information about how systems work, what rights participants have, and what steps they can take, without directing people toward any particular commercial option.

Neutrality also means the program does not engage in political messaging. The Bienestar pension is discussed as a factual government program, with guidance on how to verify deposits and use official channels. Participants form their own opinions.

Transparent Purpose

The program is educational only. It does not manage pension applications, facilitate paperwork, provide legal advice, or act as an intermediary between participants and any government agency. This boundary is stated clearly at every session and on all program materials.

Participants who need specific assistance with pension procedures or legal matters are directed to the appropriate official channels. The role of this program ends at education.

Respect for Participant Autonomy

Older adults make their own decisions. The program provides information and context, not directives. Facilitators explain what options exist, what the associated considerations are, and where participants can seek further assistance. The decision-making remains with the individual.

Sessions are structured to encourage questions. Participants are not passive receivers of information. Their experience, concerns, and real-life situations actively shape the content and direction of discussions.

Ongoing Relevance

Fraud tactics evolve. Banking interfaces change. Regulations are updated. The program commits to reviewing and refreshing content regularly so that participants receive current, accurate information. Outdated guidance in this domain can cause real harm, and currency of information is treated as a core responsibility.
